It’s that time of year again, when we drag Perth out of its winter hibernation and into the warm embrace of

The Perth Latino Film Festival 2017!

This year we have something for everyone, whether you like your films to be factual or
fanciful! With five documentaries and six narrative films, the 2017 festival features a vast range of themes and genres. Each of this year’s films has been selected on its uniqueness and it s excellence in product ion. With a whole swag of awards between them, this really is the best of Lat in film-making, right here in Perth!
This year we invite you to experience an exhibit ion of three photographic essays by
artist Andrés Salinero. Argentinian-born Salinero’s exhibitions, La Realidad, Gulp!, and Terra Incognita, will run from June to August and will take place over three venues, CineVivo’s main space the Queen’s Building in William Street, as well as on the big screens at Piazza Square and Perth Cultural Centre.
Food is such a v ital par t of our Lat in American culture that the festival wouldn’t be complete without it! To us, food is about bringing people together, about sharing and connect ion, as well as enjoying the many flavours of our great continent. That ’s why we’ve joined forces with Perth’s most authentic makers of traditional Lat in American cuisine to bring you a menu designed especially for each evening’s theme.
So make sure you come with plenty of space in your bellies for the fantastic flavours that will be on of fer!
What’s a festival without music and dancing? Each of our film screenings will be followed by a night of high energy entertainment from musicians and performers from that evening’s featured country. Expect sounds and rhythms from all across Latin America. Bring your dancing shoes if you’re feeling energetic or just kick back with a glass of wine and enjoy the performance.
This year we’re proud to bring you five short films from Ambulante Beyond – an organisation that trains new filmmakers from all over Latin America to find avenues of expression for their stories. Each film is around 20 minutes long with a focus on independent production and alternative forms of aesthetic expression. We are also excited to welcome the Mexican director of Ambulente Beyond as a guest of the festival.
And for the third year running we will be featuring our short film competition – a much loved part of the Perth Latin Independent Latino Film Festival that gets more popular every year!
2017 has been a year of setting ourselves exciting new challenges and inviting fresh opportunities for connection. Our newly established Itinerant Film Festival will be bringing the best of Latin cinema to towns and cities all across Western Australia. We’re kicking it off with our very first itinerant festival for 2017 in Broome on August 17-18!
In 2017 Ambulante Beyond, Yarnin Pictures, IRCA, ICTV and PAKAM will join with Cine Vivo – Perth Independent Latino Film Festival to form a working group to create a unique cultural exchange and film program. We envisage this program will become the back bone of an ongoing cultural exchange, including films and training programs.
Our working group will discuss individual experiences and methodologies of filmmaking in remote and regional indigenous communities as a way to develop a platform for the exchange of training and also films produced by indigenous peoples to share with Latin America and vice versa.
